WB urges developing nations to contribute to economic policy
CANBERRA. August 24. KAZINFORM Visiting World Bank (WB)'s managing director Sri Mulyani Indrawati said on Wednesday that the developing nations must work to become more involved in shaping international economic policy; Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
Sri Mulyani Indrawati made the remarks at the Australian National University while delivering a speech to the students, many from Indonesia, Malaysia, India and China.
Sri Mulyani, former Indonesia's finance minister, said that since the global financial crisis, the larger middle-income countries have become the drivers of the global economy.
She said it was important developing nations contribute to economic policy. "You are no longer the passive recipient, or becoming the whining member of the international community," she said.
"You should become, or have the confidence and responsibility to shape the global policy," she said, adding "you can do it in an articulated way, in a structured way so it will make this world become a place for all of us to live peacefully, prosperously and justly;" Kazinform cites Xinhua.
