WB admits necessity to control funds lent for ground waters purification in Ust-Kamenogorsk
UST-KAMENOGORSK. November 5. KAZINFORM /Lyudmila Malko/ During the meeting in Ust-Kamenogorsk representative of the World Bank Frank van Woerden shared the opinion of city Mayor Islam Abishev that the usage of borrowed funds for the project of ground waters purification in Ust-Kamenogorsk must be controlled.
The Mayor noted that there must be maximum efficiency of the funds application, as long as the city will pay back big money.
The matter is that the loan of the World Bank for the project of purification of the ground waters polluted by factory wastes is up to USD 24.3 mln. The Kazakh Government allocates USD 15.8 mln more. Besides, the project has a grant amounted to EUR 3.5 mln.
The representative of the World Bank agreed with the argument of the Ust-Kamenogorsk authorities. In this regard, a supervisory board for control over realization of the project and coordination of the activities of the state bodies and local authorities will be formed.
Frank Woerden said that according to the rules of the World Bank, foreign companies take part in tenders on such projects, in this regard the prices are higher. But he noted that Kazakh companies can pretend to sign up corresponding orders as well.
