War veteran beaten to steal his combat medals

LIPETSK. February 24. KAZINFORM. A 92-year-old war veteran of the Great Patriotic War Vasily Poltavtsev, who was attacked to steal his combat medals, died at the hospital in Lipetsk, spokeswoman for the regional police Natalia Maslakova told Itar-Tass on Tuesday; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.

According to her, Poltavtsev has been staying at the hospital for two weeks. He died without regaining consiousness.

The crime was committed on February 10. The robbers deceived the war veteran and broke into his flat hitting him several times on the head. After that they stole his combat medals - more than 20 orders and medals. Several days later the detectives traced down the criminals and detained them. An attacker had the previous conviction for murder. They sold the stolen medals to a smuggler for 6,000 roubles. However, upon learning about the crime the smuggler brought himself the orders and medals to the police; Kazinform cites Itar-Tass.
