Voting for Afghan parliamentary election begins

KABUL. September 18. KAZINFORM Voting in Afghanistan's parliamentary elections began amid tight security on Saturday. Kazinform refers to Xinhua.

This is the country's second parliamentary elections since the collapse of Taliban regime in late 2001.

More than 2,500 candidates including over 400 women are vying for 249 seats of Wolesi Jirga or lower house of parliament.

Over 115,000 Afghan army and police personnel backed by some 140,000-strong NATO-led troops have been deployed to ensure security of the 11.4 million voters and 5,816 polling centers accross the country. Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.xinhuanet.com
