V. Putin: SCO transport system should include ‘Western Europe - Western China’ corridor
ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Common SCO transport system should include the corridor "Western Europe - Western China", this has been announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin at today's SCO summit in Dushanbe.
"Great prospects, in our view, has the idea of the formation of the common transport system of the SCO, including transit potential of Russia's Trans-Siberian Railway, Baikal-Amur Mainline. This idea is coupled with the plans of the People's Republic on the development of the Silk Road. I am sure that such large-scale projects will serve the interests of both members of our organization and other states of Eurasia. Good momentum for practical work in this direction will be given the agreement on the creation of favorable conditions for international road transport signed today. This will form a network of road routes including the transport corridor "Europe-Western China" connecting ports of the Yellow Sea to the ports of Leningrad Oblast of the Russian Federation," Putin said. According to his words, the next step should be the adoption of the Programme of the coordinated development of motorways of the SCO member states, the draft of which the Russian side presented to partners in April this year. It bears to remind that 2787 kilometers of "Western Europe - Western China" road corridor pass through the territory of Kazakhstan.
