The presentation and a press conference led by Professor Van den Bossche will take place in Astana at the Gumilev National University with the participation of USAID and Kazakhstani officials.

This is the first time a leading WTO textbook has been translated into Russian, thanks to the support of the United States Agency for International Development. The Russian edition provides a detailed examination of WTO law and a clear introduction to the basic principles and underlying logic of the world trading system. The Law and Policy of the WTO book is a priceless source of solid and reliable information on international trade law and practices.

At the ceremony, Professor Van den Bossche will discuss Doha Development Round negotiations, give an overview of recent and pending disputes and ongoing accession negotiations, and explore the role of the WTO in the 2008-2009 global financial crisis. The prominent expert and members of Kazakhstan's WTO accession working group will look at Kazakhstan's prospects in the WTO accession process and explore the benefits of WTO membership.

In view of the regional WTO accession impulse and the recently created Customs Union, this WTO-focused conference and the release of the Law and Policy of the WTO book will help the target audience of students and actors of world trade to better understand and apply WTO rules and principles and address possible trade disputes in the process of regional cooperation and integration in Central Asia.

USAID's RTLC will distribute the book to universities and institutions, as well as government offices involved in trade negotiations, in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

The USAID Regional Trade Liberalization and Customs Project is one of the many assistance projects made possible by the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
