USA Embassy appreciates Kazakhstan?s contribution to combating human trafficking

ASTANA. April 7. KAZINFORM /Narymbek Ismagulov/ Republican scientific-practical conference ?Counter-trafficking in persons: exchange of experience, development of strategic approaches and strengthening of cooperation? was opened in Astana.

The event was organized by ?Nur Otan? National Democratic Party together with the criminal police committee of the Kazakh Ministry of Internal Affairs, ?Union of crisis centers? with the support of the USA Embassy in Kazakhstan. Reps of legislative, executive and law-enforcement agencies, NGOs and universities of Astana take part in the conference. The main purpose of the conference is to discuss the results of the republican campaign ?Don?t be a victim of human trafficking?, development of recommendations on combating this phenomenon, effective protection and preventive activities in this direction. USA Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Kazakhstan Richard Hougland complimented the work, done in Kazakhstan to bring national legislation into line with international standards in combating trafficking in human beings. ?We are proud of our partnership with Kazakh government departments and NGOs in raising awareness on criminal human trafficking?, he noted. As Chairman of the Committee of Party Control of ?Nur Otan? Party Buran Rakhimbekov noted, the Party is ready to cooperate with all constructive powers in shaping the infrastructure of civil society, establishment of effective legal framework to ensure the inevitability of punishment and give publicity to human trafficking facts.
