U.S. maintains perfect start with 2-0 win over Australia at World Cup
The United States kept its winning start in the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, securing a 2-0 victory over Australia in Group D, Qazinform News Agency reports.
The Americans took the lead in the 11th minute when Australia’s defender Cameron Burgess scored an own goal. Alex Freeman doubled the lead just before half-time, helping the U.S. secure its second consecutive win of the tournament.
With six points from two matches, the United States leads Group D, while Australia remains second with three points.
The U.S. opened its World Cup campaign with a convincing 4-1 win over Paraguay, while Australia defeated Turkey 2-0 in its opening match.
In the final round of group-stage fixtures on June 26, the United States will face Turkey, while Australia takes on Paraguay.
The group stage runs until June 27, with the top two teams from each group and the eight best third-placed teams progressing to the knockout rounds.
