URGENT: Kazakhstan becomes full-fledged member of European Commission for Democracy through Law

Chairman of Kazakhstan Constitutional Council Igor Rogov has been appointed member of the Venice Commission of Kazakhstan; Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Talgat Donakov was appointed deputy member of the Venice Commission.

In this connection, Chairman of the Constitutional Council I. Rogov met with Chairman of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio in Strasbourg.

According to Gianni Buquicchio, Kazakhstan for many years has been working with departments of the Council of Europe, in particular, with the Venice Commission. "We have a good level of cooperation with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. But the full fledged members of the Venice Commission are only Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. I believe our cooperation will strengthen in the future," the Head of the European Commission said.

During the meeting the Chairman of the Constitutional Council of Kazakhstan invited President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio to pay official visit to Kazakhstan and participate in the international conference dedicated to the Constitution Day at the end of August. Gianni Buquicchio accepted the invitation, noting that for him it is the honor to take part in this event.

In its work the European Commission for Democracy through Law follows the three basic principles of the Europe's constitutional heritage - democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

The accession of Kazakhstan to the Venice Commission will allow to adopt a practical experience of European countries in the field of constitutional law, elections and referenda, cooperation with constitutional courts and comparative studies on the implementation of democracy.
