UNWTO backs Kazakh President's initiative on announcing August 29 - World Day of Nuclear Weapons Renunciation
ANA. October 8. KAZINFORM. /Damir Baimanov/ General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization backed the Kazakh President's initiative on announcing August 29 the World Day of Nuclear Weapons Renunciation during the 18th session that finished on Thursday in Astana.
"The tourism industry has very big importance for the world economy. Tourism is a social and economic phenomenon generating USD 2 billion a day and almost a billion of tourists a year. In this context announcing August 29 the World Day of Nuclear Weapons Renunciation in the format of the UN will help to reach peace and prohibit nuclear tests all over the world", Kazakh Minister of Sport and Tourism Temirkhan Dosmukhambetov said.
"I see how the whole Assembly applauded you. It means that we support the initiative of your President to announce August 29 the International Day of Nuclear Weapons Renunciation", UNWTO Secretary General Taleb Rifai noted.
