Union State PA session to mark 15th anniversary of Union State initiative
MOSCOW. May 27. KAZINFORM The Union State Parliamentary Assembly will receive a petition in connection with the 15th anniversary of the Union State initiative at the session in Minsk on 7-8 June, BelTA learned from the press service of the Parliamentary Assembly; Kazinform refers to BelTA.
On 29 April 1996 heads of parliaments of both countries signed an agreement establishing the Parliamentary Assembly of the Russia-Belarus Community. On 25 June 1996 the first session of the Parliamentary Assembly was held in Smolensk. "During these years concerted efforts of the National Assembly of Belarus and the Federal Assembly of Russia helped establish the foundation of the Union State parliamentariam, define priorities and primary objectives of Belarus-Russia integration, find complete mutual understanding on many issues," according to the press service.
The session will focus on the development of the Union State regulatory framework in defense, rule of law, and security. One more issue on the agenda is the need to implement the Union State social development concept till 2010 and the main trends of social development of the Union State till 2015.
The Union State MPs will discuss international activities regarding the cooperation agreement between the Union State Parliamentary Assembly and the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy.
Moreover, the session will focus on the report of the Council of Ministers of the Union State regarding the 2009 budget performance.
Partaking in the session will be Union State MPs, representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly, the Union State Permanent Committee, Belarusian and Russian ministries and organizations, etc.
