Summer floods in 2010 impacted about one-fifth of the Pakistan, disrupting the lives of 20 million people and leaving more than 2 million homes destroyed. Many flood victims do not yet have proper shelter.

Supplies that UNICEF is rush delivering to vulnerable areas include clothes, shoes, blankets, and newborn kits. The agency has been working to provide safe drinking water and education to those impacted by the floods for months.

Another concern, according to UNICEF is the explosion of landmines that were activated by floodwaters. Three people, two of whom were children, have been killed by mines thus far.

Out of the 1.96 billion U.S. dollars that the UN and its partners requested to help flood victims only 62 percent has been received. Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.xinhuanet.com for full version
