On March 2, 1992, during the 46th UN GA Session the Republic of Kazakhstan became a full-fledged member of the United Nations Organization. A year later, UN embarked on its activities in the country with the opening of its first office in Kazakhstan. From the very first day it has supported economic, social and political development in Kazakhstan.

Over the last 20 years, the UN agencies have provided significant support to the country in terms of drafting a wide range of strategies, programs and legislative documents dealing with social, environmental and healthcare issues as well as macro-economic reforms. The most prominent of them are the national development strategies, green development strategies, legislative reforms and many more.

"I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the UN Office in the Republic of Kazakhstan on its 20th jubilee. As the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, I take incredible delight in mutually profitable cooperation established between the UN and Kazakhstan. It's been a long way and I would like to extend my best wishes both to the United Nations and Kazakhstan," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's letter on the occasion of the jubilee reads.

"20 years of strategic cooperation of the UN team with Kazakhstan were unique. We civil servants in the United Nations System are confident that authorities and people of Kazakhstan value our work and see us as a reliable partner," Mr. Stephen Tull, UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Kazakhstan, said.

The future cooperation between the UN and Kazakhstan will be based on the strategic goals of the country highlighted in the "Kazakhstan-2050" Strategy: economic, social and political modernization of the country, inclusive development and promotion of Kazakhstan's initiatives in the field of multilateral cooperation and regional integration.
