UN General Assembly recognizes Kazakhstan's balanced and realistic approach to global political problems - Ban Ki-moon
ASTANA. April 7. KAZINFORM Today Chairman of the Senate of the Kazakh Parliament Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev has met with Secretary General of the United Nations Organization Ban Ki-moon.
Welcoming the high guest the Senate Speaker expressed appreciation for his visit to Sempalatinsk polygon and the town of Kurchatov, and for his statements on Kazakhstan's role in global process of disarmament and strengthening the nuclear non-proliferation regime, the press service of the Senate informs.
"Your visit will, undoubtedly, be remembered by Kazakhstanis", the Speaker said having highlighted that Kazakhstan fully supported the UN policy.
In turn Ban Ki-moon said that the UN recognized Kazakhstan's active role in non-proliferation and reduction of nuclear threat, adherence of our country to all international agreements in this sphere. He noted that the General Assembly is aware of Kazakhstan's balanced and realistic approach to the global political problems and the Kazakh President's initiatives find support and understanding from the side of the UN.
"We highly appreciate wise and brave decision of Kazakhstan on renunciation of nuclear weapons. As is known, the UN announced August 29 the International Day against nuclear testing for dedicating this event", Ban Ki-moon noted. Participation of the Presidents of Kazakhstan and the USA in the upcoming Nuclear Security Summit in Washington will greatly contribute to the process of reduction of nuclear arsenal worldwide, he stressed.
The UN Secretary General also expressed high appreciation to the activity of the Kazakh parliamentarians for legislative provision of the principles of international law and support of important initiatives and efforts of the Kazakh Leader on struggle against poverty, promotion of economic and political reforms, integration and development of regional cooperation.
Upon completion of the meetings K. Tokayev thanked Ban Ki-moon for his efforts on ensuring security on the planet and invited the representatives of the UN General Assembly to take part in the oncoming Trans-Asian parliamentary forum scheduled for May.
