UN forges ahead, bur for a reform members' consent needed, Ordjonikidze
ASTANA. July 1. KAZINFORM /Valentina Yelizarova/ - "Is the opinion of urgent reformation the United Nations Organization considered?" was one of the questions asked by Kazinform reporter to Sergey Ordjonikidze, the UN Deputy Secretary General at the press conference following the sitting of the Congress of the Leaders of the World and Traditional Religions.
«Once I was reviewing the archive documents of the second session of the UN General Assembly held in 1946, when the first reformation talks began. During the entire period since then the Organization has been many times reformed, both in terms of its principal organs membership, and authorities. However the reforms are conducted by the member countries - to carry out any reform they need the consent of all the member countries », - Mr. Ordjonikidze replied.
«In the UN history there have been just several issues that were on the agenda of the first and second General Assembly. As of today the number of issues handled by the UN exceeds 150», - he added.
