Ukrainian coalition, opposition fail to reach compromise, parliament halts work
KIEV. July 2. KAZINFORM The Ukrainian parliament did not work on Wednesday because the ruling coalition couldn't reach a compromise with the opposition Party of Regions on an increase in the subsistence level and the minimum wage, MP Valery Pisarenko of the Yulia Timoshenko Bloc said, Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.
The conciliatory council met to discuss the situation. Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko attended the meeting.
"We are ready to compromise to a reasonable extent and vote for a law that raises the minimum wage and the subsistence level, if sources of funding necessary for that are clearly named," Pisarenko said.
He said the Party of Regions also demands that the ministers of education and science and the interior minister be fired, Kazinform cites Itar-Tass. See www.itar-tass.com for full version.
