Ukraine, Moldova start border demarcation
KIEV. January 30. KAZINFORM Ukraine and Moldova have begun border demarcation, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said on Friday, Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.
Foreign Ministers Pyotr Poroshenko and Iurie Leanca placed the first border mark in the Transdniestrian sector of the border earlier in the day.
Last year, the Ukrainian State Border Service installed 3,900 border marks in hitherto unmarked areas of the Ukrainian border with Russia, Belarus and Moldova.
Ukraine and Moldova agreed to start the demarcation of the Transdniestrian area in early 2008.
The border is 1,222 kilometers long, including 267 kilometers by the river. The border between Ukraine and Transdniestria stretches out for 452 kilometers.
Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat will visit Ukraine on February 1 at the invitation of Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko.
The sides plan to finalize debates on border demarcation and mutual acknowledgement of property, the Moldovan government press office said on Friday, Kazinform cites Itar-Tass. See www.itar-tass.com for full version.
