U.S. waits Kazakhstan's accession to WTO

ASTANA. June 9. KAZINFORM Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Demetrios Marantis arrived for an official visit in Astana, the press service of the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed.

Within the visit he met with the leadership of ministries and departments on issues of Kazakhstan's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and had bilateral meetings of the working group within the U.S. Central Asian Trade and Investment Framework Agreement  ("TIFA").

te sides discussed the following issues: veterinary measures, import licensing procedures and customs administration, support for agriculture and industrial sectors, in particular their compliance with WTO rules.

Within the meeting with the Kazakh Minister for Economic Integration Zhanar Aitzhanova the sides debated the content of the agenda of the forthcoming TIFA ministerial meeting, as well as the prospects of bilateral economic and trade cooperation. Following the meeting it was decided to establish a bilateral commission on trade and investment in order to strengthen cooperation between business circles of Kazakhstan and the U.S. The annual ministerial meeting under the TIFA with the countries of Central Asia and the U.S. was scheduled on October of this year.

Speaking with mass media, Demetrios Marantis noted that the parties managed to touch upon the important issues of further expansion of trade and investment opportunities between the U.S. and Kazakhstan.

According to him, Kazakhstan membership in the WTO will show investors around the world that Kazakhstan is ready to run business in accordance with the rules and regulations of international trade, as well as facilitate the exit of Kazakhstani producers to markets of goods and services of other countries.
