U.S. Mission to Kazakhstan presents American Film Showcase in October

ASTANA. October 1. KAZINFORM The U.S. Mission to Kazakhstan will present its American Film Showcase in four cities throughout Kazakhstan from October 3rd through 14th.  Starting in Astana and travelling through Shymkent, Petropavlovsk and Almaty, the program will present public screenings of six American documentary and feature films.

Three American film experts will accompany the movies during their national screening tour:  Ilisa Barbash director of "Sweetgrass," Mary Sweeney, filmmaker and producer, writer of "The Straight Story" and Alan Baker, Associate Dean at University of Southern California's (USC) School of Cinematic Arts.

The American Film Showcase (AFS) is a major touring film program bringing American documentaries, feature films and animated shorts to audiences worldwide. AFS is a partnership between the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and USC's School of Cinematic Arts.

The films presented explore a wide range of topics including modern family relationships, technology in our daily lives, "green" transportation, urban youth issues, and modern cowboys. All the films will be screened in English with Russian subtitles, Kazinform has learnt from the U.S. Embassy to Astana.
