U.S. basketball player James Still sentenced to 4 years for assault of Kazakh student
ASTANA. January 24. KAZINFORM American basketball player James Still, who together with one of his teammates assaulted a student from Kazakhstan back in 2010, was sentenced to four years in prison in the U.S., Express K newspaper says.
Yerkin Abdrakhmanov, a victim of the two American athletes, had to turn to plastic surgery to 'fix' the consequences of the assault, as his face was badly damaged.
The incident occurred on the campus of Providence College, Rhode Island. James Still and Johnnie Lacy, who both played basketball for Providence College at that time, were walking near campus and drinking up alcohol. They attacked Yerkin and severely beat him up. He just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Kazakh was found unconscious after midnight by passersby, according to the newspaper.
