Two children dead, 33 sick at orphanage in Sverdlovsk region
YEKATERNINBURG. March 1. KAZINFORM. Two children died and thirty-three fell ill at an orphanage in the town of Lesnaya in the Sverdlovsk region; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.
A criminal case has been opened on charges of providing services that do not conform to the standards of safety of consumers' life and health, the press service of a regional SKP (Investigative Committee) department told Itar-Tass on Monday.
Even a preliminary cause of the two deaths and mass sickness at the orphanage was not immediately known. Two children aged eleven and twelve died. Thirty-three others suffered in the incident, including seven children hospitalized, a source from the SKP department said. Investigators have interrogated the personnel of the orphanage, collected material evidence and appointed forensic examinations, it said. The experts continue work to establish the causes of the children's death and sickness of the other orphanage residents; Kazinform cites Itar-Tass.
