Trump: U.S.-Iran ceasefire “on life support” as talks continue

President Donald Trump said Monday that the ceasefire with Iran remains in place but is “on massive life support,” underscoring Washington’s intent to continue diplomatic efforts despite rejecting Tehran’s latest proposal, Qazinform News Agency cites Xinhua.

“The ceasefire is unbelievably weak,” Trump told reporters at the White House, criticizing Iran’s response to the U.S. peace plan as “totally unacceptable.” He insisted that any agreement must include Iran’s commitment to halt its nuclear program.

Trump accused Iran of backtracking on a pledge to surrender enriched uranium, claiming they initially agreed but failed to formalize it. He referenced uranium buried under rubble from U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites in June 2025, saying only a handful of nations could recover it. Iran, however, maintains its nuclear program is strictly peaceful.

The president also revealed he is weighing the revival of Project Freedom, a U.S. military operation designed to escort commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz, though no final decision has been made. Both American and Iranian forces have exchanged fire in the strait since the ceasefire began last month.

As written before, oil prices jumped after Trump rejected Tehran’s response.
