The American leader expressed hope that the temporary truce could mark the beginning of the end of “a very long, deadly, and hard fought War.”

This Ceasefire will include a suspension of all kinetic activity, and also a prison swap of 1,000 prisoners from each Country,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“This request was made directly by me, and I very much appreciate its agreement by President Vladimir Putin and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy,” he noted.

"Talks are continuing on ending this Major Conflict, the biggest since World War II, and we are getting closer and closer every day," Trump concluded.

Russia has agreed to support President Trump’s initiative to extend the ceasefire with Ukraine until May 11 and to carry out a prisoner exchange with Kyiv during this period in the format of “one thousand for one thousand.” The agreements on extending the truce and prisoner exchange were reached through telephone contacts with the U.S. President’s administration, TASS reported.

Zelensky has confirmed the ceasefire and prisoner exchange announced by Trump.
