Türkiye's unemployment rate drops to 8.5% in December

Türkiye's unemployment rate ticked down by 0.1 percentage point to 8.5% in December, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) on Monday, Anadolu reported.

The number of jobless aged 15 and over fell 39,000 from the previous month to 3.03 million as of December.

The unemployment rate for men remained stable at 6.9%, while it dropped to 11.4% from 11.7% for women.

Labor force participation came in at 54.1% in December, a slight decline of 0.1 percentage points from a month ago.

The employment rate edged down by 0.1 percentage points to 49.5%, meaning 32.7 million people.

Youth unemployment, defined as those aged 15-24, rose 0.5 percentage points to 16.3%. The rate was 13.1% for males and 22.1% for females in December, compared to 12.1% and 22.6% in November 2024.

Earlier, it was reported that Türkiye’s population in 2024 grew by 292,567 from a year earlier to 85.66 million.
