Türkiye aims to export over 400,000 tons of flour to Syria in 2025
Türkiye, the world's largest flour supplier with exports exceeding 3 million tons in 2024, aims to export more than 400,000 tons of flour to Syria this year, a sector representative said, Anadolu reports.
Eren Gunhan Ulusoy, Eurasia director at the International Association of Operative Millers (IAOM), told Anadolu that Türkiye was a key flour supplier to Syria during the civil war but exports fluctuated depending on the geopolitical situation.
Attending the 19th International Congress of the Turkish Flour Industrialists’ Federation (TUSAF), Ulusoy said that Syria’s Idlib and Raqqa regions have become Türkiye’s export area due to their proximity to the country.
“Syria will be an important market for Türkiye to increase its exports for a few years to come and the flour sector will also play in the reconstruction of the country,” he said.
Ulusoy said that Türkiye’s exports to Syria had risen from 267,000 tons in 2023 to 326,000 tons in 2024.
Earlier it was reported that Türkiye had reopened its consulate general in Syria's Aleppo.
