Tragedy at Qatar LNG Plant: 13 dead in Barzan facility accident
Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs of Qatar, announced the deaths of 13 workers at the Barzan Liquefied Natural Gas Plant following an accident that occurred on Sunday night, Qazinform News Agency reports, citing WAM.
Qatar News Agency reported that Al Kaabi said the Sunday evening explosion and fire at the Barzan LNG Plant were “an accidental incident,” emphasising that it was not an act of sabotage or intentional wrongdoing.
He noted that the LNG facilities affiliated with QatarEnergy, Ras Laffan Port, and all logistics operations related to the energy sector remained unaffected by the incident, confirming that LNG production and export continued as usual.
He highlighted that the fire at the Barzan LNG plant poses no environmental risks or threat of hazardous material leaks.
Earlier, Qazinform News Agency reported that a U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress carrying eight people crashed shortly after take-off from Edwards Air Force Base in California’s Mojave Desert on Monday, with no survivors.
