Tokayev: Qurultay elections mark historic day for Kazakhstan
Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev cast his vote in today's election of deputies to the new unicameral parliament Qurultay, Qazinform News Agency reports.
The President voted at polling station No. 520, located in the Palace of Independence in Astana.
After casting his ballot, Kassym‑Jomart Tokayev held a briefing for media representatives.
“Undoubtedly, today is a truly historic day for our country. For the first time, we are holding elections to the unicameral Qurultay. This is an important milestone. United as one nation, we are carrying out large‑scale reforms. You are well aware of these changes and are witnesses to the transformations taking place. We have achieved significant results, yet much work lies ahead, and the goals set before us are of great importance. Today’s elections are only the beginning of this major work,” Tokayev said.
On 23 August, Kazakhstan is holding its first‑ever election of deputies to the new unicameral Parliament (Qurultay). Polling stations opened nationwide, with voting scheduled to continue until 20:00.
