To study abroad is to become a part of the world knowledge treasure
ANA. August 3. KAZINFORM /Kuralay Orynbekkyzy/ Bolashak scholarship program is a remarkable opportunity to obtain excellent education in the world's best and universities - Head of the UNDP Department for Operational Issues in Kazakhstan. Bolashak graduate Meruert Zhangozhina said in an interview to Kazinform.
She was among the first students who have travelled broad for studies in 1994. At that time she was a second-year student at the Karaganda State University with the Major in International Economic Relations. She studied Management at the University of Kent County, UK, under the Bolashak Presidential Program.
What achievements have you made in your life and carrier due to participation in this program?
As far as I remember when applying to the foreign universities we had to write essays about how we will use obtained knowledge in practice after we return home. Looking at that how Bolashak graduates make practical use their knowledge for economic and social development of Kazakhstan, it is a pleasure to know that contribution of each citizen is important for the development of our country. This allows us to hope and be confident that our country has a wonderful future.
When studying abroad we became a part of the world treasure of knowledge and experience of those specialties we have studied. We became stronger making good investments into our future.
The life abroad broadens your mind, develops tolerance and leadership.
What would you like to introduce in our country now that you possess invaluable experience gained abroad?
This is a broad topic. However I would like to note two aspects. I believe the most important thing is to shifting from raw-orientated economy, economic diversification and development of small and medium business. To diversify the economy we need to ensure further development of the banking sector by providing financial recourses for enterprises based in towns and rural areas, and by making financing resources affordable for micro and small sectors.
How does your foreign experience influence your work in Kazakhstan?
During 10 years I have worked in the Kazakhstan's banking sector. I was a part of the team managing gold and currency reserves of the National Welfare Fund. Later I was heading departments working at international stock markets, international fund and currency markets. Foreign education is extremely helpful in the work that involves cooperation with international companies and organizations. It also allows introducing new tools, projects and techniques thus contributing into the Kazakhstani economy. At present I work for an international organization and the knowledge received at the UK University proved useful. To know that your knowledge that you received abroad promotes the implementation of the national development strategy in your country, democratic and economic reforms and improves the life quality, stimulates your further personal and professional growth.
How does foreign education differ from the national education?
The western education is highly pragmatic as a lot of practice material such as "case studies" is given in the course of study. The tasks are given in written form as they develop analytical thinking, skill to address the problem and develop art of the academic letter. The whole study process is based on independent work. This develops such your qualities as consistency, regularity, sense of purpose in studying of certain subjects, resoluteness to meet your goal, ability to place priorities, to plan your time on your own as far as you begin to understand that your future depends on your intellectual and personal growth only.
Do you think this scholarship is approachable, and what does the state should do to improve it?
The Bolashak Program which was founded at the beginning of our independence is a brightest idea for the sake of Kazakhstan's future. Hundreds of scholarship graduates serve the cause of their country. The leadership of our country does not spare funds for the education of our talented youth at the world's best universities. And the fruits of such policy are evident.
