Timur Bekmambetov: We want to turn Astana into Asian cinema center
ASTANA. July 1. KAZINFORM The famous film director born in Kazakhstan Timur Bekmambetov wants to turn Astana into the center of Asian cinema. He said this Sunday at a press conference to mark the opening of the International Festival of Action Films "Astana".
"This year the festival has made a very significant step toward the support of many filmmakers. We no longer organize parades of the 90's stars. We must do our best to make Astana the center of Asian cinema," said Bekmambetov.
According to him, this year the festival invited the young filmmakers of three major film schools of Asia: Beijing Film Academy, Korean Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Kyoto Institute of Fine Arts.
"We have 30 participants from each school. They were joined by 30 young filmmakers, whom we selected in Kazakhstan. And so we formed a wonderful audience of 120 young filmmakers," said the director.
As Bekmambetov noted, they will enjoy a three-day program: master classes, Astana city tour, and a unique chance to create own superhero for the capital of Kazakhstan.
"They need to unite and create a modern mythology of the city of Astana. That is a task that stands before them is to find the image of a young superhero who lives in our great city," concluded the President of the Festival.
