Timber export ban lifted in Kazakhstan
ASTANA. March 29. KAZINFORM - The decision of the Collegium of the Eurasian Economic Commission on lifting the ban on the export of certain types of wood products to third countries shall enter into force from 6 April this year. It is reminded by the press-service of "National Agency for Export and Investment «KAZNEX INVEST» JSC.
Prohibition has been acting since 2005, and includes products ranging from raw wood to carpentry construction. The issue of ending the ban at the request of the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Industry of Kazakhstan was initiated by the agency «Kaznex Invest» in May 2012 at the meeting of the Board of exporters. Board members supported the reasonability of exporting the partial lifting of the ban on the export of timber and instructed the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Kazakhstan to prepare the feasible position on this issue for the final decision of the Eurasian Economic Board.
In due time the ban on export of timber produced in the territory of Kazakhstan had been the necessary measure to preserve forests. However, this led to the stagnation of domestic timber. Beginning from 2009 the industry began to face financial difficulties due to decreased sales volumes of forest products.
"The Kazakh wood processors will now be able to establish supplies of its products to these markets," said the director of the Department of Export Development of «Kaznex Invest» Anar Berdenova.
