The three winners -- an elementary school teacher, a special education teacher and an administrative worker -- came forward Monday and chose to remain anonymous. They will receive a lump sum payment of 35 million U.S. dollars each after taxes, Xinhua reports.

"If it can't be you, these people are precisely the people you would want to see win," Maryland Lottery director Stephen Martino said at a news conference early Tuesday morning.

Martino said the three winners -- one woman in her 20s, another in her 50s and one man in his 40s -- were all "modest" and "humbled" by their win.

The three bought lottery tickets together for the first time, with each contributing 20 U.S. dollars for a total of 60 tickets as a pool. The final winning ticket came from a 7-Eleven store, the local lottery official added.

Three winning tickets altogether were sold nationally in the March 30 drawing for the 656-million-dollar jackpot, the biggest in Mega Millions history.

A Kansas winner turned up last week and remained anonymous. Another ticket holder in Illinois has not claimed the share, where winners are not allowed to remain anonymous.
