Thousands of parents lose parental rights in Kazakhstan every year

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - At least one thousand parents are found unfit to parent their children in Kazakhstan every year, admitted Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Gulshara Abdykalikova.

The statement was made at the Friday conference dated to the 20th anniversary of ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child by Kazakhstan. "In order to improve justice with regard to children and system of children's rights protection, the Government of Kazakhstan joined efforts with the EU and UNICEF and signed a special three-year program. Nowadays nearly 20 thousand children in Kazakhstan live in troubled families. And at least one thousand parents get their parental rights terminated every year," Ms Abdykalikova said. She added that both the Government and the society should stand together to face those challenges. "Presently the Government is mapping out the nationwide plan of actions aimed at strengthening family relations, moral and spiritual values in Kazakhstan till 2020. The plan will outline the measures directed to protect children's rights and interests, support people with disabilities and so on," the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
