This is my last Olympics – Gusman Kyrgyzbayev
Kazakhstan’s judoka Gusman Kyrgyzbayev, who claimed today bronze medal in men’s 66kg in the Champs De Mars Arena in Paris, said it was his last Olympics, Kazinform News Agency reports.
“I am in a great mood. I congratulate the Kazakh team on another medal. I prepared very well. I believed I would make it to the final, but I was a little unlucky in the fight against the Brazilian. I cannot say that he was much stronger than his two previous opponents. I think it was fate. I felt support of Yeldos Smetov, the veteran of Kazakh judo. This is our common victory. I am thankful to my parents, wife and children,” Gusman Kyrgyzbayev says in an interview with Jibek Joly.
“This is my last Olympics. I am 32. And I did my best. I had been fighting in the 60 kg weight division for eight years. The Olympic berth was won in the 66 kg weight category. As for today's matches, I cannot say that in the semifinal the Brazilian was stronger than others. I don't know if I let my guard down … It would not be an exaggeration to say that today is the best day. The Serbian athlete was very strong. He is tall, so it was not easy. This is a long-awaited Olympic medal. I dedicate this victory to our country, my parents, wife and children,” he concluded.
