Thailand's red-shirted people stage anti-gov't rally
BANGKOK. February 15. KAZINFORM. A group of the Thai anti- government protestors on Monday gathered near the office of the national Election Commission (EC) in Thailand's capital Bangkok; Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
By 14.30 p.m., local time, about 700 United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) members were protesting there, a Xinhua journalist reported from the rally site.
The EC office is located inside the Government Office Complex on Chaeng Wattana road in Lak Si district.
The red-shirted protestors wanted a progress report on a case against the ruling Democrat Party, charged with unlawfully receiving 258 million baht (7.77 million U.S. dollars) from TPI Polene, a listed company.
Also, the party is accused of misusing some 29 million baht ( 873,509 U.S. dollars) worth of a political development fund, which was provided by the EC during an election campaign in 2006; Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.news.xinhuanet.com for full version.
