TengizChevroil fined KZT 1.1 billion for flaring gas above permitted limits
ATYRAU. February 14. KAZINFORM /Andrey Sokolov/ TengizChevroil LLP developing the Tengiz and Korolevskoye fields in Atyrau region was fined KZT 1, 112, 000, 000.
According to city prosecutor Khallidula Dauyeshev, one of the checks of the oil company's activity revealed that for 11 months of 2010 TengizChevroil burned gas above permitted limits. Zhaiyk-Caspian Department of Ecology obliged the company to compensate to the state KZT 1 billion 112 million, and also to pay the state duty of KZT 33 million 380 thousand, Dauyeshev said.
However, the oil company disagreed with the arguments of the ecologists and challenged the claim. A court, having considered all circumstances of the case, has rejected the claim of TengizChevroil.
To date, the company paid the fine in full.
