Taldykorgan Museum receives historical value gift seized from smugglers
TALDYKORGAN. January 16. KAZINFORM — Officers of the Department for the execution of judicial acts of Almaty region have made a unique gift to the regional historical museum named after Mukhammedjan Tynyshbayev.
The officers handed the leather belt of the XX century decorated with silver overlaid plaques and precious stones. The work of folk art has been seized from a smuggler when he tried to bring it through the Kazakh-Chinese border. The detained citizen of Zhrkent town explained the customs officers that he inherited the belt from his great-grandfather and that he always wore it as the talisman against evil forces. The former owner of the belt avoided criminal liability but was fined 25,965 tenge for an administrative offense. The unique belt was handed over to the museum.
