Summit in Astana to promote OSCE as platform of ensuring Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian security - M. P. de Brichambaut

ASTANA. October 19. KAZINFORM /Meiram Baigarin/ In view of the upcoming OSCE Summit 'Kazinform' National Information Agency has prepared a review of the press with the most interesting materials published in Kazakhstan and abroad on presidency of Kazakhstan in the OSCE and Astana Summit.

The newspaper 'Liter' published an article 'The upcoming OSCE Summit in Astana is reason to be proud of motherland' on October 12. Figuratively speaking,the OSCE Summit in Astana is an 'exam' on patriotism for Kazakhstan, Majilisman Ramazan Sarpekov thinks. His view on the issue was published in the article. Referring to history it is refusal from nuclear legacy of the Soviet Union, peaceful policy and wise activity taken as the presiding in the OSCE country regarding the situation in Kyrgyzstan this all gains respect on the world arena.

'Kazakhstan takes presidency in the OSCE very seriously. It is not only my opinion a lot of world-known politicians share this view. Certainly, any country having the status of a presiding country should work dynamically and beneficially for the Organization. Kazakhstan carries its mission proudly', the Majilisman said.

The same newspaper on October 13 in the article 'Astana outlined its priorities for the upcoming Summit of the OSCE member countries' informed about the meeting of the parliamentarians of the OSCE member countries in Palermo where a delegation from our country emphasized the necessity of solving acute problems in the Central Asia. As Secretary of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs Kanat Saudabayev noted all of the issues needed to be discussed would be included into agenda of the OSCE Summit in Astana.

The newspaper "Strana i Mir" (The Country and the World) on October 12 published the information on meeting of Nursultan Nazarbayev with Speaker of Iranian Parliament Ali Larijani. The sides discussed the issues regarding development of the Kazakh-Iranian economic cooperation, regional security and strengthening of inter-parliamentary relations. The Iranian guest highly appraised international initiatives of Kazakhstan.

'Kazakhstan is the first Central Asian country to preside in the OSCE. We highly appraise this achievement of your country. We also rely on great achievements of your country while presiding in the Organization of the Islamic Conference. I believe that Kazakhstan will be a link between West and East. Iran fully supports foreign policy of Nursultan Nazarbayev', he said.

The Russian 'Nezavisimaya gazeta' in the article 'Troops in Karabakh. The OSCE Mission to study the situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan' published on October 6, told about the meeting of the OSCE Assessment Mission led by the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Experts of Azerbaijan appraises the activity ambiguously, the activity which should be summed up by a report on humanitarian situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. For instance, political scientist Ilgar Mamedov thinks that Armenian position at the Summit in Astana will be more relevant than a report of the Assessment Mission.

The German newspaper 'Deutsche Welle ' on October 15 published an article entitled 'Germany summed up preliminary results of presidency of Kazakhstan in the OSCE'. The European Academy in Berlin had a discussion on the topic of 'The presidency of Kazakhstan in the OSCE'.

Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Germany Adilbek Alzhanov noted that presiding in the OSCE Kazakhstan intended to draw attention to the problems of the Central Asia.

'I think that Kazakhstan put all possible efforts to help Kyrgyzstan, not only as its neighboring country but the chairing in the OSCE country as well', A. Alzhanov said.

Representative of the Centre for OSCE Research in Hamburg Frank Evers positively appraised the activity of Kazakhstan as the chairing in the Organization country. He noted that despite doubts from some member countries of the OSCE Kazakh diplomats showed qualitative management.

According to the expert, the fact that Kazakhstan presides in the Organization is the success itself.

The newspaper 'Kazakhstanskaya pravda' published an interview with OSCE Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut entitled 'The spirit of Astana' on October 16.

'Kazakhstan's presidency in the Organization gave a new, good impetus to the OSCE to stimulate its activities which was a really valuable contribution', M. P. de Brichambaut said.

According to him, the Summit in Astana - the first one during 11 years span of time - will promote the OSCE as a platform of ensuring Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian security. 'The spirit of Astana' will be very relevant in the year of the 35th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act and the 20th anniversary of the Charter of Paris.
