Strasbourg court verdict to Soviet WWII veteran arouses regret in Russia
STRASBOURG. May 18. KAZINFORM A verdict passed by the European Court of Human Rights on the case of WWII veteran, Soviet partisan Vasily Kononov, whom Latvia accused of war crimes, aroused regret in Russia, Russia's permanent representative to the European Court of Human Rights Georgy Matyushkin declared on Monday; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.
The Russian Justice Ministry has been thoroughly studying the resolution, announced by the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights, which is final and is not subject to appeal, Matyushkin said.
"Concrete formulations why the court arrived at such a conclusion are very important," he said. "At the present moment the resolutions of the European Court of Human Rights should be appraised on a bigger scale," Matyushkin said. "There are signs of attempts to revise the results of the Nuremberg processes," Matyushkin said.
