Stefano Zanini appointed as new directeur sportif of Pro Team Astana
ASTANA. October 11. KAZINFORM Former rider is to join Pro Team Astana next season.
Pro Team Astana are delighted to announce the appointment of Stefano Zanini as one of the team's directeur sportifs for next season. Zanini boasts a wealth of cycling experience, having raced professionally from 1991 to 2007 and subsequently served elsewhere as a DS, PRO TEAM ASTANA official website reports.
Zanini's palmarès includes some thirty career wins with highlights including the 1996 Amstel Gold Race, two Giro d'Italia stages, and victory on the Champs-Élysées in the Tour de France of 2000. During his long career he also claimed a second-place finish in the Tour of Flanders and a third-place in the Milan-Sanremo, as well as numerous podium finishes in the Northern Classics.
Alexandr Vinokurov and Giuseppe Martinelli are sure that Zanini's experience in the Classics will be of huge benefit to the team.
