Square of Independence in Astana likely to be renamed

Director of the International Center of Cultures and Religions Mr. Aidar Abuov put forward the proposal at a round table dedicated to the discussion of the State-of-the-Nation Address on Tuesday. The conference brought together reps of the Spiritual Directorate of the Muslims of Kazakhstan, the Orthodox and Catholic church.

"I suggest renaming the Square of Independence in Astana into Mangilik Yel Square. The square is surrounded by the integral components of the Mangilik Yel idea - the Palace of Independence, the Palace of Peace and Accord, the Shabyt Palace, and the Stella of Independence," A. Abuov said.

Those present backed the proposal voiced at the round table.
