Special session of UNWTO devoted to Silk Road project
ANA. October 7. KAZINFORM. /Arnur Rakhymbekov/ Special sitting devoted to the Kazakh tourism project "Silk Road" has been held within the framework of the 18th session of the UNWTO General Assembly in the Palace of Independence, Astana.
The sitting aimed to draw attention of the governments of foreign states to the problems connected with visa and other administrative procedures impeding border crossings for tourists.
Making a speech Kazakh Minister of Tourism and Sport Temirkhan Dosmukhambetov called on the UNWTO to support Kazakhstan's efforts on promotion of Silk Road and initiatives of the local authorities on restoration of its sights.
The idea to attract foreign tourists to Silk Road was debated at the Silk Road Mayor's Forum in September 2009 in Almaty. Then the representatives of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and China backed the initiatives of the Kazakh side.
