Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General visits KNU

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, the head of the Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Miroslav Jenča has visited the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi, the press service of the institute reports.

"The purpose of the visit was to discuss the issues of strengthening partnerships between the UN agencies and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in the field of science and education, sustainable development, preventive diplomacy, etc. During the meeting, the Rector of KNU Galim Mutanov told the guests about the program on the University's transformation into a research institute, innovations, enhancement including the work of the university as a global hub of the UNAI on sustainable development", the statement reads. During his visit Miroslav Jenča has met with students and faculty. Miroslav Jenča held the function of an ambassador of Slovakia to Mexico (2000). Between 2004-2007 he led the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Center in Tashkent (Uzbekistan). Jenča held the position also during the tragic events in the Uzbek town of Andijan in 2005. Based on his previous experience in Central Asia gained during his stay in Tashkent, in 2008 UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appointed Jenča Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) and Head of the newly established United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, UNRCCA. He speaks English, Russian, Spanish and French.
