South-East Asia health minister meeting kicks off in Nepali capital
KATHMANDU. September 7. KAZINFORM The "27th Meeting of Ministers of Health 62nd Session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia" kicked off in Nepal on Monday, Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
Nepali Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal inaugurated the meeting at a ceremony held in Nepali capital Kathmandu.
The health ministers from 11 countries in WHO's South-East Asia region including those from Nepal, India and Bhutan, and WHO experts are attending the four-day conference, organized under the joint auspices of the Nepali government and the WHO.
Among other issues, the high-level meetings will discuss pandemic influenza preparedness, including sharing of influenza virus research, access to the resulting vaccines and other benefits.
The meeting will also focus on global issues of climate change and its impact on human health.
According to WHO country office in Nepal, the high-level meeting will follow up progress on the New Delhi Declaration on the Impacts of Climate Change on Human Health, adopted by the ministers in 2008.
The 11 member countries of WHO's South-East Asia region are Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Timor-Leste, Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.chinaview.cn for full version.
