Sonja Zhiyenbayeva advances to ITF W15 Madrid Tournament semifinals

18-year-old Sonja Zhiyenbayeva has reached the semifinals of the ITF W15 Madrid Tournament, Kazinform News Agency reports citing the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation.
Zhiyenbayeva, who occupies 781st spot in the WTA rankings, beat the tournament’s No3 Amy Zhu (ranked 532nd) from the U.S. in the quarterfinals with a score of 7:6 (7:0), 6:4.
In the semifinals, she will face first seeded Jenny Dürst (ranked 419th) from Switzerland.
Earlier, another Kazakhstani tennis player Zhibek Kulambayeva defeated 6:3, 0:6, 6:4 Julia Riera from the host nation at the W50 Pilar Tennis Tournament 2024 in Argentina.
