Sony, Panasonic to jointly develop new OEL TV displays

TOKYO. June 26. KAZINFORM Sony Corp. and Panasonic Corp. said Monday they will jointly develop displays and other parts for new generation organic electroluminescence televisions featuring crisper images in a bid to establish low-cost production technology by late 2013.
The two Japanese electronics companies said they are also considering teaming up on the production of OEL panels, while each plans to develop and commercialize OEL TVs and large-sized displays on its own, Kyodo reports.
The deal will help the Japanese companies to catch up with South Korean rivals Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc., which are aiming to start selling 55-inch OEL TVs by the end of the year.
