SKorea favoured for 2.5 bln dlr deal in Kazakhstan

SEOUL. March 26. KAZINFORM A South Korean consortium led by the state power utility said Thursday it has been picked as preferred bidder for a 2.5-billion-dollar deal to build and operate a coal-fired power plant in Kazakhstan.
Korea Electric Power Corp (KEPCO) said it was selected along with partner Samsung C&T, a civil engineering firm, for the project at Balkhash, 370 kilometres (230 miles) northwest of Almaty.
The South Korean consortium will sign a final contract next year with Kazakhstan's state firm Samruk Energy, KEPCO said.
The plant will be completed by 2014 with a capacity of between 1,200 and 1,500 megawatts, Kazinform refers to AFP.
