Six Kazakhstani Asian Winter Games medal winners land at Almaty airport

The winners and medalists of the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin have returned home, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.

Six Kazakhstani athletes, including Sherzod Khashirbaev, Ayana Zholdas, Assylkhan Assan, Ardana Makhanova, Kristina Silaeva, and Yevgeniy Koshkin were greeted by the residents of Almaty at the airport.

“We started preparing for Harbin in Austria. Then we continued training in Almaty, participated in the World Cup stage in the U.S. After that, we went straight to the Asian Games. I felt the support of my country. We especially liked the mountains, ski jumps and beautiful weather in China. As a result, we grabbed gold and silver medals. Now we are ahead of the World Cup stages, which are slated to be held in Almaty, China, and Italy. We will try our best to perform successfully at these competitions and show decent results,” Kazakh freestyler Sherzod Hashirbaev shared his impressions.

Recall that the Kazakh freestyle team collected four medals at the Asian Winter Games in Harbin.

Sherzod Khashirbaev and Roman Ivanov scored 97.92 points in the Freestyle Aerials Synchro event, bagging the country's historic gold.

Kazakhstan’s Ardana Makhanova and Ayana Zholdas won bronze medals in the Women's Aerials Synchro Final, scoring 59.16 points.

On top of that, the mixed team of Kazakhstan, consisting of Ayana Zholdas, Sherzod Khashirbayev, and Assylkhan Assan bagged a silver medal in the Freestyle Aerials Finals with a score of 235.39 points.

Kazakhstani speed skater Yevgeniy Koshkin hauled a silver medal in the Men's Speed Skating 100m race.

Kazakhstan's speed skating team, including Kristina Silaeva, Daria Vazhenina, and Nadezhda Morozova won a bronze medal in the Women’s Sprint.

As reported earlier, Kazakhstan’s women's curling team has defeated Thailand in the round-robin session 13 match of the 2025 Winter Asian Games in Harbin.
