Since gaining independence Kazakhstan works on effective development and modernization of country: UN Sec Gen
VIENNA. April 9. KAZINFORM /Timur Bekturganov/ "From the moment of gaining independence Kazakhstan works on the issues of effective development and modernization of the country", UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said Thursday at the special session of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna.
The Secretary General, who arrived to the session after his trip to Central Asian countries, told the participants about his visit to Kazakhstan.
"Being the first Central Asian and post-soviet state chairing the OSCE Kazakhstan makes unique contribution to the activity of this outstanding international structure. The Kazakh Government works on modernization, preserving ethnic diversity in the country and providing international and interconfessional accord in the society. It can promote development of effective decisions on a range of complicated issues by the OSCE", the Secretary General noted.
Regarding to the prospects of interaction between the OSCE and UN in non-proliferation of nuclear weapons Ban Ki-moon complimented the example of Kazakhstan where he visited the territory of former Semipalatinsk Test Site.
In this regard he highly appraised the decision of President N.Nazarbayev on nuclear disarmament and closing of the test site.
