Signing of EEU Treaty is a historic milestone - Yegor Ligachev

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - The holding of the session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council and signing of the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty in Astana has generated intense public interest, the Akorda press service reports.

In a letter to President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev a well-known Soviet and Russian political figure Yegor Ligachev stressed the importance of that historic document. "The signing of the treaty has undoubtedly become a milestone. People in our countries are starting to feel that authorities truly care about their lives and the future," Ligachev's letter reads. Chairman of non-governmental foundation Zerde-Pamyat Mr. Tolebayev, chairman of the Russian Culture Center Mr. Pogodin, chairman of the Belarusian Ethno-Cultural Association Gramada Mr. Belyayev and editor-in-chief of Informbirzha news newspaper Mr. Kulpin fully supported the signing of the document. According to them, the signing of the treaty is a bright example of how to solve occurring problems. "The parties to the treaty are driven by the desire to consolidate. We are confident in the viability of the treaty," their letters read. In her telegram Ms Mukhamedzhanova, a music expert and a journalist, thanked President Nazarbayev for his selfless work and allegiance to the country and the people of Kazakhstan. Resident of the Almaty region Mr. Mukhametrakhimov noted special role the Kazakh President played in the process of development of the Eurasian integration.
