Shipway construction will cost Kazakhstan USD 700 mln

ATYRAU. KAZINFORM "Construction of a navigation canal in the Kazakhstan's section of the Caspian Sea will cost the country USD 700 mln," said Gaziz Kussaiyn, director general of TenizService LLP.
The company is the canal's construction major customer. 50 km long and 5 m deep shipway is planned to be built in the southeast part of the sea with wharves in the area of the Prorva field. It will be designed for transporting by sea oversize cargo of oil companies. First of all, TengizChevroil needs the shipway for the construction of the third-generation refinery to increase its annul oil output on the Tengiz field. It believes that it may boost its oil production from the current 25 to 36 mln tons by 2016.
